Colour is all around us. From the moment we wake up to the minute the day ends, we’re exposed to a variety of different colours and the psychological properties associated with each shade. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that we pay so much attention to colour when making personal decisions, from choosing an outfit to re-painting our bedroom walls.

Colour trends change year upon year, and 2019 will be no different. Here are some of the trends predicted to rise in popularity in the New Year.

Natural colours

According to Dulux, 2019 is set to see a rise in natural tones. These will be colours that we spot in natural landscapes, such as forests and beaches, and will range from golden sandy hues, clay browns, rich blues and verdant greens. In fact, Dulux’s 2019 colour of the year is “Spiced Honey”, which encapsulates the move back to nature perfectly. These colours will increase in popularity as more and more people seek simplicity and serenity amidst busy lifestyles and hectic schedules. In interior design, lighter shades will be juxtaposed against starker colours to mirror the imperfect beauty of natural landscapes.

Neutral shades

Neutral colours remain on-trend every year and are often chosen for interior design purposes to create a timeless and classic look. Greys, browns and creams are steady colours; they’re tasteful, refined, and can be paired with livelier colours to provide the perfect contrast. If you’re planning to re-decorate with neutral tones, think ivory, taupe, mauve and stone.

High energy colours

Vibrant shades of orange, red, yellow and pink are expected to explode in 2019 as more and more people hope to make a statement. From the richest of reds to the warmest of oranges, these colours are lively and empowering. High energy colours are often associated with strength, confidence, fun and courage, making reds, yellows, oranges and pinks the perfect choice for creative and free-spirited individuals.
